Horseman VCC Pro Nikon or Canon Mount+MF Lenses
« on: May 02, 2012, 09:35:11 pm »

Has anyone tried the Horseman VCC Pro Nikon Mount with Pentax 645 or Mamiya lenses. I would like to know mainly how wide can one go with this system. There is very little info on this combination.
Thanks. ACH

Looks like it's not a popular system with members of this board.

In this thread scroll down to reply #23 and you'll find a gentleman who's using the Horseman VCC.

Why don't you try the big sensor forum here or alternative gear at Fred Miranda's?

Thanks to all.

Simon Harper from this forum was kind enough to help me on this topic. He's a happy user and knows the limitations. According to him, one cannot use wider than 80mm on the Horseman VVC pro.
I'm still getting it for product shot. The setup being a Nikon D800 + H Vvc Pro + Pentax 645 lenses above 75mm.
For Architectural's I'm sticking to my Canon 5DII + 24mm TS-E. Also for the Nikon planning on getting the Zeiss 21mm which I personally haven't tried but have read very good reviews by Lloyds Chambers.

The inherent limitation with these type of view camera type adapters is the DSLR body. The reflex mirror chamber between the sensor and the lens mount flange constricts the range of movements. With similar types of view camera based adapters I found my lens range limited to 90mm to 180mm if I wanted movements. There are other issues but that is the principle one.

But have fun. When it works it works great, especially for close up work.

yes Elis, it would mostly be for product shots. I'm sure I'll enjoy it. In the past I have had 2 Horseman VH cameras (6x9) which I loved them. I used them for landscape and location photography, They were by far the most versatile medium format technical cameras I tried. Small, super light and durable. Later I trade them for a Toyo A 4x5 and I regretted it.
