Install and Upgrade Options for a NAS system
« on: May 01, 2012, 03:04:51 pm »

I am upgrading from LR3 to LR4 onto a New Computer (WinXP to Win7) And I use a “Synology” (It’s like a Drobo) or NAS (Network Available Storage) to house my LR Library files. I searched here, but never hit on the right words to find any prior forum discussions. Could somebody please advise me on the correct installation steps?  Convert existing LR3 to LR4 onboard the old computer and then move it to the new computer. Or install LR4 on the new Computer and then work to address the data on the existing NAS?
I feel a bit lost about the best sequence to follow here and would appreciate some hints or suggestions. The current Library contains 41k images dating from 1997 to present day.

Thanks in advance for help you would be willing to share.

i know you can backup to a NAS, but not have the working files on a network drive.

*Install LR4 on the new, and convert as needed, in batches or singles

Thanks  Phil. Not sure what to make of your comment. I have copies of the image files i.e., my LR3 Library
and work the files from there all the time using LR3 Develop Menu. Maybe I'm not uderstanding what you mean?

On your new system, install LR4, and open the libraries, and it will ask if you want to convert them
