Finally!

http://nikonrumors.com/2012/04/27/nikon-patents-for-17mm-f4-tilt-and-shift-10mm-f4-16-30mm-f4-5-5-6-and-28mm-f1-4-lenses.aspx/#comments

If they only upgrade the 24 PC-E as well, I would be very happy!

It is only logical that Nikon would expand their dominance in wide to T/S lenses.

The 24mm PCE is already very good optically, it just feels dated mechanically.

Cheers,
Bernard

Hi Bernard,
I have all 3 PC-E lenses from Nikon.
The 85 is the best, from then on it's downhill.
Compared to the Canon 24 MkII TS, the Nikon is regrettably the lesser one.

Nikon really has to pull out all stops for that 17PC-E

Still the 24 PC-E does the job.

I hear that the Canon is excellent indeed.

Gidday,

This is fantastic news. The 17mm T/S and 28mm F1.4 are definitely on my shopping list. This is another good reason to sell my Mamiya 645 kit.

Cheers

For me, it'll be a race between Nikon bringing out the 17mm tilt-shift (and hopefully updating/improving the PC-E 24) against Canon bringing out a high-megapixel camera with good low-ISO dynamic range...

Wow, looking forward to seeing this one.

With an image height of 33mm listed what would the image circle be?

Still the 24 PC-E does the job.

I also use all three of them....
The 85mmPCE is not so good wide open but at d8 it is super ( i noticed this after using it on my d800e)
I like the 45mmPCE  very much- a very good lens.
The 24mm PCE has field curvature that makes it difficult to get planar subjects sharp from corner tot corner- nevertheless a very very good optic.- sharper than the 24mm 1,4G i find.
(This field curvature is a good thing when shooting interiors)
But the mechanics of Canon are much better. Lets hope they use something like that on the 17mm ( or not tilt at all)
BTW the 14-24 is still a fantastic lesn- only very easy to get out of tune - a little bump and you can have it replaced.. ( i am on my 4th..I know..)

I agree with pretty much all of this, although I'd add that the 24 PCE has some geometric distortion and image quality falls off substantially more at the edges of the image circle than with the other two.

It'd be really nice if Nikon had T/S lenses where the tilt/shift could be rotated independent of each other.

Personally though, as a landscape shooter I'd much rather have a 30mm T/S than a 17mm.
