Phottix won't fire Novatron. Need help.
« on: April 26, 2012, 08:09:14 pm »

I have bought a set of Phottix Strato II flash triggers. They seem to work well and also (to my surprise) will remotely fire my camera as well as the flash. But...I have a very old Novatron 400 (not VR 400) light kit. I bought this used about 30 years ago. I use it a only few times a year when I photograph large groups at class reunions so I have never updated it.

I expected the flash triggers to replace the sync cord with the Novatron but they won't fire the Novatron. In the past, I have had difficulty firing the Novatron with a photoelectric slave as well. Novatron tells me the output voltage of their powerpack is small enough that it should work with the Phottix. I'm thinking maybe it just requires more juice to fire the Novatron than the Phottix provides and will contact the Phottix company to see what they say.

I welcome any comments anyone might have that could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

I'd fire the Novatron or get it repaired /updated.
