Desert Storm - Namib Desert
« on: April 17, 2012, 09:02:30 pm »

Impending sunset and an approaching storm front converge to give the Namib Desert an eerie, almost surreal, glow.

Taking this shot itself was almost a surreal experience. There it was, an immense line of black thunderheads looming overhead, lightning bolts exploding in the distance, the occasional funnel cloud forming and dissipating. Ostriches, impalas and people alike were all running or driving in the other direction, getting away as quickly as possible. And there I was, a lone, idiot photographer getting out of the car, perching myself beneath a dune, setting up a tripod...

2-shot panorama taken near Sesriem, Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia, with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II and a 5-stop hard-edged graduated neutral density filter.

Man you are killing me with your images.

My stomach is churning with all sorts of emotions seeing this.
Six years since I last visited Namibia and you show these images.
Man you are better than any travel agent - all I want to do is go and book an airline ticket.

For you: this is a great image - again.

Congratulations

One of the most interesting skies I've seen in a long while. Great stuff.
