What kind of impact do you think the D800 has on D3x prices?

Taking account of the fact that the D3X is discontinued?

It is still available, but has been out of production for some time, and the discontinuation seems confirmed by Nikon, at the Nikon Japan site. Go to
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nikon-image.com%2Fjpn%2Fproducts%2Fdiscontinue%2Fdigital%2Findex.htm
and under Old Products, click through to "Digital SLR Camera".

So my view is that shooting jpg does make perfect sense with tge D800 for those photographers looking for the best possible image quality with as little hassle as possible. Raw does expand the possibilities even further, but it does look like the jpg engine of the D800 is very far from being an afterthought.

Cheers,
Bernard

Bernard,

Modern 35mm SLRs are Jpeg SLRs which happen to write out a Raw file so the snobs among us are happy.
The Raw is the afterthought.
