The color, I think, in this one, Seamus. I'm sure Martin Parr would agree. It's very Martin Parr-ish.

If it's about color, then it's color.

Agreed, colour it is and I take the comment as a great compliment seeing as he's one of my all-time favourite photographers.. Incidentally, Russ, funny you should mention Martin Parr, - quite by chance I found a web documentary about him the other night. He was shooting the English Derby, I think - some fancy race anyway. His take on English society is remarkable.

I certainly agree with that, Seaums. Parr is the only photographer other than Elliott Erwitt who makes serious comments about society with photographs that are both hilarious and frightening. Elliott's photographs tend to tilt more toward funny, while Martin's tilt toward frightening. Parr's work makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time.

Parr I don't dig at all; I think he has a talent for barefaced exploitation. Y nada mas.

No more so, it seems to me, than anybody who takes pictures of people without their knowledge - surely the greatest street photographers of all time were barefecedly exploitative in their technique. Winogrand et al were hardly shrinking violets in this respect.
