LR4 output sharpening versus Photokit Sharpener 2 from PS
« on: April 13, 2012, 10:08:12 am »

Hi.  I have just started using LR4 but have yet to print from it. Instead, thus far, I have stuck with my regular workflow of printing from PS 5 with output sharpening from Photokit Sharpener 2. (Same when processing images for web publication.)

Has anyone seen an assessment of LR4 output sharpening versus Photokit?

Cheers

Steve

Well, since PixelGenius worked with the Lightroom engineering team to get the PKS inkjet output sharpening into LR's Print module, I would have o say it's pretty darn good. Add to that the fact it's done on the fly and after any upsampling, I would say it's also a more convenient workflow. And it's also my preferred workflow and since I'm a member of PG, that should tell you something...

Thanks Jeff.  That was the response I was hoping for.

Steve

It would be worth your time to read these three threads to understand the relationship between PhotoKit Sharpener and the sharpening in Lightroom/Camera Raw. In particular read the posts from Jeff Schewe who is both a member of the PixelGenius team (the developers of PhotoKit Sharpener) and worked with Adobe on the Lightroom/Camera Raw sharpening:

PS While I was looking up the references Jeff posted his reply, however I have posted it as I think the referenced threads contain useful information.

PS edited to improve clarity.
