A proper Zoom
« on: April 09, 2012, 03:40:21 pm »

Im excited about this!

I guess its probably $20G

Fuiji 19-90

IMO if you want to shoot without lens changes this is the perfect range

Lens like the RRP 18-80 seem bigger and heavier

Seems that chopping 1mm off at the wide end pays dividends

(a theory Ive long held)

You build the camera once, slap on a FF, have a MB for drop in ND and leave it.. for ever

Im convinced that would save hours on set over time

Whatever the cost this seems to me the first intelligent (cine lens) zoom lens Ive seen

It seems to be alsmost managable hand held due to the low weight and has a range to do a wide and a decent cutaway/tight shot

A lens like a 14-60 seems less desirable to me as it is lacking at the longer end

I speak from the perspecive of my typcial sequence which is introduce with a wide, then move to MCU and CU shots

The intention would be to enjoy the time savings and brain clarity experienced in never removing it from your A camera.. ever

If one has to remove the lens at all you are back to matte box hell and might as well use some primes which is whay a 14.5 -60 has no appeal to me.. IMO

I wonder what the shoot/day cost of ownership over five years would be.. certainly less than my $8g 400 2.8 which get used once a month.. maybe

Even that lens is not that costly considering Ive had it since 1998..
