There seems to be something up on the star being held aloft  by  the statue on top of the dome so let's see what it is...

Hi,

What sharpening do you use? My guess is that I would sharpen a bit more.

Best regards
Erik

Erik I took your advice and revisited my sharpening settings.
My LR4 capture sharpening settings for the attached version are now
87/0.7/40/45.

The Sharpening Amount is much more aggressive than I have used in quite awhile. It is interesting to see how well the D800 NEFs hold up to it.
Luminance NR: 11/100

Edit: Looking at this version in this forum the light halo around the hawk is 1-2 pixels wider (more obvious) and the shadows slightly deeper than they are on screen in Lr4 and also when looking at the JPEG using Preview. I know I can clean these up fairly easily but am using someone else's computer which doesn't have Photoshop installed. Also Iam trying to get across the real feel of the 14 bit D800 NEFs.

Ellis,

Thanks for a lot of good contributions to these forums!

Regarding sharpening I'm now frequently using detail set to 100 which according to Eric Chan and Jeff Schewe switch LR/ACR sharpening to deconvolution. I would normally use it with:

Amount:  45
Radius: 0.7
Detail: 100
Masking:17

Noise reduction:
Luminance: 20/50/0
Color:25/50

This may be a bit over the edge, but I'm quite happy with those settings.

Best regards
Erik

Those settings work better but am still being a little more aggressive with amount. The D800 NEFs seem to be able to handle it well.

A link to a stitched pan: http://www.ellisvener.com/Panorama_jpg.zip
I am not using my main machine this week and didn't feel like buying a copy of PTGui Pro for the computer that I am temporarily using, hence the ferocious watermarking
