San Francisco to Bandon
« on: March 30, 2012, 11:19:43 am »

I am going on a golf outing in Bandon the last week of August. I did the same trip
last year, flew into Portland and spent five days going down the Oregon coast.
This year I want to fly to San Francisco and go up the coast to Bandon.

I will take about 4 days to do so.  I would appreciate any advice or maybe
even alternative routes if there is a better way photographically to spend
these four days.

Thanks much in advance

If you are looking for rugged coastline, the area between Gold Beach and Brookings in Oregon is spectacular. You could spend all your time there. The Redwoods in Northern California are also visually compelling and would be on the way. Further inland, Crater Lake National Park is stunning and all of Southern Oregon offers incredible geology, rivers, forests, lakes. Get a good map and google interesting places as you plan your trip.
I hope you have a great time.

Thank you Michael, I am looking now at my most helpful book from last year The Photographers Guide to
the Oregon Coast and the author agrees with your recommendations.

thanks!

Shoreacres State Park, just south of Bandon, as well as Bandon Beach itself.  I made the same trip a couple years ago to attend a photo workshop in Bandon, with golf added in at Bandon Dunes.  Loved it.

FYI Shore Acres State Park, one of the loveliest places on earth, is NORTH of Bandon, about 26 miles, 45 minutes. I have travelled between them many times. Both are superb areas worthy of the trip for photography.
