I have an image of a mountain against a blue sky (this is happening on multiple images like this one) that when in develop module I am seeing a dark edge around the peak. It appears in both fit, full, 1to1 and all views; also in the detail tool window. After trying switching many combinations of tools both on and off, I found that sliding the tool to 0 and thus disabling the color noise reduction completely got rid of the edge. Adding any amount of color noise reduction, even 1 point, brought it back. Another peculiarity is that the edge does not show in library, print or slideshow views, only develop view. Anyone else getting this, know what and why this is happening, and is there a fix? I'm on a Mac 10.6.8.

I just checked a ver4 2010 version of an image before upgrading it to 2012 in ver4 and it doesn't exhibit the dark outline until I upgrade it.

Perhaps you could post a screen shot of the problem along with your slider controls.
I couldn't duplicate, will try again later.

The first set are without color noise reduction. The second with set at 6. Even when set to 0, there seems to be a grey line. Clicking on and off the lens correction CA, shows a lot there that is mostly removed when its click on, but the dark line remains-but only in develop module.

Here is a 1to1 of the area that shows a lot of dark edge. You'll notice that when zoomed into 1to1 it appears quite normal (this is with color noise reduction on), but when zoomed out to fit or fill, it has the edge. ??

Can you post a link to the original raw file?

Sorry Jonathhan,

I can't come up with anything.
If Jeff Schewe or Eric Chan could pop in and shed some light, they're the geniuses.
It may have something to do with how noise correction and sharpening are displayed. They did change this behavior in LR4.

Afterthought.......where is your clarity slider set?

It shows up with any clarity setting in the fit or fill view, but again, not in the 1x1 view, or print, library, slideshow.

There is currently a bug in the < 1:1 preview of color noise reduction in Develop that I'm working to resolve.  There should be no problem when viewing at 1:1, viewing in Library or other modules, printing, exporting, etc.

Eric, thank you for getting back with a verification of this problem in Develop.
