Silver Efx color space in LR
« on: March 24, 2012, 09:28:24 am »

What will be the best color space to use in the preference of LR when i use Silver Efx Pro2 to edit B&W files.
Is it better to use ProPhoto RGB with its 1.8 gamma instead of Adobe RGB with 2.2 since the gamma will change again in the return inside LR.

It may not matter a bit.

Depends too on what you intend to do with the data. For example, will you be printing it directly (application manages color) or maybe using something like the Epson Advanced B&W (Printer manages color).

I'm printing thru LR, printer manages and then with ABW but what is the difference with application manages since i cannot access ABW if i use a profile unless i used the old (6.11) driver for my 3800 which is double profiling if i understand correctly.

Shouldn’t really matter then. I just ran some tests using ABW on OS X and Printer Manages Color which is the recommended route these days on that operating system. The target I used was sRGB, ProPhoto and even Lab, the output through the PMC path was the same.

Thanks Andrew!

I might then use ProPhoto to have fewer profiling into LR. From what i'm understanding, i can adjust the gamma by playing with the tone setting in the printer dialog.
Did you print with QTR in the past. I'm trying it but i don't know if i should use Printer manages color or the profile that QTR is installing in LR.

No comment on QTR, don’t use it.

The TRC gamma should make no difference but you can test that depending on the print path and driver. In terms of the Epson 3880 I tested, using ABW and PMC, the results were the same using any working space and in fact, Lab.
