having printer packed and shipped
« on: March 22, 2012, 11:58:03 am »

A friend halfway across the country (US) is selling me an Epson 7600 for a great price. Trouble is that she does not want to deal with the packing, which I can understand. So, any ideas as to my options? Any recommendations for movers/packers who can shop from Houston to Wyoming?

Most chain shippers will pack most anything. Search by her zip code for local retail UPS or FedEx shipping outlets and call them directly with the printer sizes. Can she get the printer to a local shipper? If not perhaps the local shipping outlet has someone who could pick it up.

The shipping is easy, but the packaging is the problem. It needs a palette and heavy duty box. I've got a call in for a quote from a company, but am afraid it will be overly expensive

Shipping companies can be stingers for cost, but make sure that they include insurance in whatever quote they provide!

You can also place an ad or look for shipper’s ads on the local to the printer Craigslist for someone to come and crate it.

Quote came back at $800! More than the printer. Looks like it won't happen.
