Proof Setup Results
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:18:50 am »

Here is what I don`t get. I made a profile with my Colormunki. I made a print and decided it needed some changes so I looked at my image in PS Proof Setup Custom and made a few adjustments such as lighten the print then printed it again. This print looked the same-in other words the adjustments that I made in Proof set-up didn`t show up. What am I doing wrong? What is the point to using proof setup if the changes don`t show up in the print?

You made actual edits to the original (while viewing the soft proof)? Did you do this on a layer? Perhaps the adjustments were too subtle? If you did edit the document, those edits will transfer to the print. The Proof setup is simply a way to view the document differently, based on the print profile, prior to printing. Adjustments are adjustments and should carry through the print driver to the print.

Adjustments were not on a layer but maybe they were too subtle.

However, does the profile attempt to print the file to match the values of the profile? If you darken the file by 20 points won`t the profile raise the brightness levels 20 points to match the profile values or will it print 20 points too dark?

No. The profile converts the data from the source color space to the output color space in a fixed way, if you see that you want it to be lighter, and lighten the data, the print should be lighter too (the original RGB values are different).

Well,here is what I did-
1. Reprofiled my monitor and changed the luminosity from 120 to 110
2. lightened my file
3. printed file and I didn`t see any difference in the brightness of this print compared to the previous print done before I changed luminosity level to 110.

Altering display calibration has zero effect on the output.

Either you are not lighting the file enough or you are doing something wrong elsewhere because altering the RGB values (higher/lighter) will print lighter.
