A good substitute for Joshua Tree is Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in San Diego County, a drive of about two hours from the city.  It's more desert scenery, with some pretty good badlands, mountains, bighorn sheep if you're lucky, ocotillo cactus, etc.

Even closer is Torrey Pines State Park (near La Jolla), which has scenic twisted rare pine trees on eroded high bluffs overlooking the ocean.  It's not particularly big, though, so it's not worth a whole day, but good for a couple of hours.

Oceanside is about 40 miles north of downtown San Diego - just how fast are you driving, BlasR?  ???

(Or was that from Torrey Pines - *that* might be more like 20 miles...)

Hello,

I am traveling to San Diego, CA on business for a couple of days next week.  Does anyone have any recomendations for a photography location close enough for a day trip?

I've been thinking about Joshua Tree NP, but it's a little far away.

Thanks,

If you want mounting with green plus the ocean in san juan capistrano take route 74 drive 5 to 10 milles you will have mounting with the ocean...Good luck

If you get lost just call me I will be here untill the 15

I drive like an old men...Slow but from my house to San Diego zoo is just 91 milles ,,My house is in Orange in the heart of Orange...It take me 1:20 minutes from Orange to San Diego without traffic.

Oseanside will no be the far I think....But anyway, if he take rout 74 or pch he will enjoy And have great opportunity to take some photos.
