Hi,

I agree with Luke.

Comparing JPEGs is OK if you are shooting JPEGs but says nothing about image quality if you shoot raw. A high ISO comparison says little about DR which is best at base ISO.

Best regards
Erik

Those are JPGs with settings extreme NR on the Canon and not extreme on the Nikon.  There's no winner or loser in that game.

My experience is that one really needs to work the camera out, and then we will know. MTL or shooting pilot chart is one thing, bring camera into studio or to outdoor is another, until then, we really don't know enough to say much, let along 1DX has not arrived yet.

Are these two extra stops DR in D800 confirmed?

It seems to me that there are many of these so called "testers" that either have an agenda or skew the test parameters to the point that the results are incoherent.

I have been shooting a D800 for the past couple of weeks and have been comparing the files against my 5DII and 1DSMK3 files. All are shot on prime lenses and I don't own wide zooms.

IMO, and I say this as a very picky, compulsive and detail oriented individual, the D800 is giving me one to two additional stops of latitude in high contrast scenes.

I agree with Steve. I can not pin it down to numbers but there is a large gain in dynamic range with the D800 over the D3x at low (sub 800 ) ISO settings. I am processing in Lightroom 4.
