Anybody interested in Kerala, S. India?
« on: March 12, 2012, 06:39:02 am »

Hi,
Am from India, specifically Kerala, South India.

Wonder what will be in your mind(as photographer) when thinking about India.
I mean anything specifically interested; say landscapes, art forms, wild, nature, Temple art etc.

Kerala is an area full of lush green vegetation and no barren land with one side tropical forests and other side world famous Back-waters and sea shores. It famously called "GODS OWN COUNTRY"...

What do you like of this area of world? Any suggestion?

Please note one shot of a Temple ritual art form.

I understand from my students and friends who are from India that India is so vast and so undiscovered by "the West" that it has immense potential for photography. Many in the West try to characterize or "slot" countries into nice neat pigeon holes based on stereotypes. For India that's impossible because of the rich diversity of peoples, cultures, places and habitats. I, for one, am greatly looking forward to some day experiencing the colours, the contrasts, the landscapes, wildlife and people of India.

We may as well start with Kerala, so, please share you photography with us!

Kerala is a fertile ground for photography, especially in the monsoons (June, July, Aug, Sept).  It is also very humid, more humid than most other places in India.

Thanks, Terry McDonald, Rajan Parikker, ;D

Nature contribute a lot of scenes for art-photography.
In Canada and US, autumn gifts colorful shots everywhere....

But in India, esp. in South India, such chances are less.

I tried to get info, what of India attract others by and large.

Thanks....

Kerala is known for it's houseboat cruises.  It's on my bucket list.  Anthony Bourdain did a "No Reservations" episode there, and it looks gorgeous.

Ha ha !
But Anthony is not taking a single shot there, than slurping all the way from beginning to end..... ;D
Seems he is very fond of Kerala food at roadside shacks....
(Truly tasty, sans sophistication)

I am querying about the landscape photography possibilities of this area.
