Replacement for HP Proofing Matte Q1968A?
« on: March 11, 2012, 11:55:55 am »

Hi all,

I've about blasted thru my remaining 24" roll of HP Proofing Matte in dealing with a print head issue. I just went to purchase a roll and found out it has been discontinued.

Does anyone know if there is a suitable HP replacement for this paper? I use it to proof matte prints and also for running diagnostic prints on my Z3100.

As usual, HP's website is useless, and Google turns up nothing helpful.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The Tecco EFI Proof 5165 Matt 165 grams?
It shows some similarities to the paper white your paper has and the weight is close.

Thanks, Ernst.

I'll check it out. The North American vendor listed no longer has the website up, so I'll see if I can find reference to it somewhere else.

Lexjet lists EV140MC24 - Validation 140 Premium Matte Coated for 45.00 per 24" x 98' roll. This isn't the EFI paper that Ernst mentioned, but it seems similar (140gsm, 7mil, 95 percent opacity, 100+ brightness.

Thanks for the suggestion, tastar. My rep at IT Supplies called HP for me and found out that they recommended HP Super Heavyweight Plus Matte as the substitute. The Lexjet paper is almost $15 cheaper than the HP, so it might get the nod.

There are  more like that if you check the spectral plots of Coated Qualities>Matte in SpectrumViz. The weight of Heavyweight made me think it was out of the contest.

Hi Ernst,

Yeah, I really didn't want something that heavy, that's why the Lexjet appealed to me. I'll see if I can load your application and look at the papers you have in your database.

Thanks again,
Jim
