Soft Proofing - The Proof Virtual Copy - Rendering Intent?
« on: March 09, 2012, 11:11:27 pm »

Am I missing something.. Or does the virtual copy created (which includes the paper type and printer in its name) not include the rendering intent anywhere?

Not on the name, if that is what you mean,

Best regards

It is my understanding that Proof Copies have the profile you selected when soft proofing the image embedded in them.

Correct, in that going to the Print Module will honor the intent you select. At least for output profiles. Keep in mind, like Photoshop, you can still pick RelCol or Perceptual for RGB working space profiles and you’ll just get RelCol.

Andrew, If I am understanding you correctly you are saying that the profile is embedded in the virtual copy file and regardless of what LR says the profile is in the print box on the right hand side it will be overridden by the embedded profile? So toggling the output rendering intent on these files has no effect since its being overridden.

Just seems an odd way to handle this.. I would have thought it was more intuitive to put the profile name into the file name like the printer name and paper type....

The rendering intent is honored. But you still have to select the correct print template and/or setup the profile for printing.

Andrew,

1. If you have a saved layout with a specified profile and you drag a proof copy with a different profile by accident, which profile takes precedence?

2. Since we have proof copies now, can we just specify a page layout (without profile specified) and just drag a proof copy to the layout and LR will honor the proof copy's profile?

Thanks!

Pretty sure template takes precedence and you must have something specified in said template. IOW, all the VC does is honor the intent you selected.
