resolution and color space for 4900/7900
« on: March 09, 2012, 10:25:15 am »

I was always taught to print at 240 ppi, 16 bit for the 9800 printers.  If a file has the capabilities to print at 360 ppi, 16 bit- should I choose  to print at 360ppi?  Is 360 ppi recommended over 300ppi?  Also, would you always recommend working in Pro Photo color space over Adobe RGB?  How would that effect using Epson and Hahnemuehl ICC profiles that are found on their site?  Any information regarding color space and ideal resolution would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

This question has been answered in some depth by Jeff and Michael in the CPS tutorial series.

Recommend that you buy and view the videos

Have a look at the thread at http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=62609.0

The link that explains a lot about resolution is http://www.digitalphotopro.com/technique/workflow/the-right-resolution.html

Colour space choice is less empirical.
Using a wide gamut space like ProPhoto may gain you extra achievable gamut, but you need to be aware that you may not see that extra gamut on your monitor, so take some time to learn soft proofing to avoid unpleasant surprises.
