Agree. I think the crops work better and even seeing more of the background right in the first crop works because of its harmonious blue shade. Maybe including more of the top to "keep it square" would help to diminish the tilted effect. I think from the angle you took the image, if you leveled the door, the top of the wall would be tilted, so leveling further would not work.
In the original it looks as though you were trying to include the hanging flowers on the right, but in order to get that all in you would have cut the rock in half. Therefore, I think cropping out the right and also the rock makes good sense because those elements do not add anything important to the image of the doors.
I really like scenes like this where you do not try too include too much while maintaining a nice balance.
