lightroom 3 export to photo elements 9
« on: March 04, 2012, 06:58:59 am »

hello another newbie question  i exported my image to elements from lightroom to try and do some more detail work ,but when i tried to do some things it was telling me in elements it was only a 8 bit image although im sure i exported as a tiff which should be 16 bit or 14 bit ? i save my images in lightroom as dng files is the best way to store a file ?problem might be that i shoot a raw with jpeg ?do i i have to define the file when i export ,well it looks like elements only supports 8 bit files ?

You need to adjust your export preferences.  In Windows, select Preferences from the Edit drop down tab, then in the External Editing tab, for Bit Depth select 16 bits/component.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but Adobe Photoshop Elements doesn't work with 16-bit files.  At least that's what I was told about PSE 10.

PSE 10 and other versions do work with 16 bit files but some of the filters and brushes only work with 8 bit files.  If you use those tools then you will have to convert to 8 bit.

As to the color space, I always use ProPhoto RGB.
