5D MKIII and total number of brackets allowed
« on: March 03, 2012, 10:06:07 am »

With the 5D MKIII has anyone seen if Canon is going to open the gate on this camera and allow for more than 3? :)

So far only the pro bodies have been allowed to go past 3 brackets something I have never understood.

However...what are the available bracketing increments?  Please let it be that I can set up to 2 stop increments!  One interpretation of the published data is that maybe the maximum increment is 1/2 stop.  Wouldn't that be the pits!

Hi Bill,

From what I've read on the European Canon website:
Quote
Exposure compensation is possible with the EOS 5D Mark III from +/-5EV in 1/3 or 1/2 stop increments. This can be combined with auto exposure bracketing (AEB) in two, three, five or seven-shot sequences.

So, if it works anything like on my 1Ds3, I suppose you could have several bracketed shots up to 5 stops apart, not that I would understand why one would choose to do that.

Cheers,
Bart

Thank you Bart.  Looks like the EU site has the best organized information.

So, I could have -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3 ,+4.  Just 2 more and I could record the disc of the Sun!  Maybe I can hold up an ND filter for the +4 exposure.  The 2 exposure option is nice for simple ground/sky pairs without creating too many files.
