Broken Down Pier
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:11:22 pm »

This is an HDR I made in Sarasota, FL of broken pier that juts out into the Gulf as the storm clouds encroach on a firey sunset. I had to climb out on the pier and wait for some people who were standing out on the pier to move out of my composition. I used a long shutter speed to give some movement to the clouds and a nice cotton candy effect to the swirling water in the foreground. I enjoy shooting locations like this where the subject, in its state of disuse, not only adds texture and character but also illustrates mother nature reclaiming some of her own!

I feel like the colors of the man-made but broken-down pier are competing with the colors of mother nature's sunset, and the pier may be winning.  Before the match started, that's not what I would have expected, but the pier brought HDR into the mix and perhaps made it an unfair contest.
