Just a gate?
« on: February 16, 2012, 07:49:51 am »

Here's one from our NZ trip last september that I have questions about which I am in two minds;
1. Colour or mono? Which is more effective?
2. Would you darken the mountains on the colour one, or leave them in the subdued tones as they are?

both look good, although the color looks more appealing to me, I don't know about bringing up the mountains a bit, since for me the focus is on the fence. Good shot

So do I. I'd be tempted to clone out the three vertical fence posts which show up between the top two slats of the gate.

BW for me too. I didn't notice the three fence posts that Jeremy complained about until I read his post, but now I agree with him. I would prefer them to be gone.

After watching the shot many times, the b&w is starting to grow more on me, either way, both pictures look really good

 I hadn't really noticed the fenceposts either...!  Funny how you can stare at something for ages & still not see all the detail :D That is what critique is for !
In hindsight, I wish I had left a bit more space on the left, but that is the edge of the shot. It was a bit rushed - jumped out of the van with the wife wondering out loud why on earth I wanted a photo of a gate...!   ;D

Good Lord, Eric, how on Earth do you imagine I would know? This is a family show, remember, no in-depth interviews will be tolerated!
