Hard drive for lightroom catalogue
« on: January 20, 2012, 10:13:54 am »

On my laptop (macbook pro i7 ) I run lightroom 3.6 on an SSD drive. My images are stored on an external drive, is the speed of this drive imprtant to the operation(speed) of the program? Peter

Peter,
I can't really give you a definitive answer but Ian Lyons published an article about Lightroom and SSDs and made comparisons with HDs. You might find it useful…

Well, I guess it all depends on the size of your catalog, but I don't think you'll have any trouble with a regular external drive, I used to drive my library in an external usb eco drive (5400 rpm) on my imac and never had slow response on aperture, so maybe fw800 drive would be even better.
