r3000. power on/power off
« on: January 16, 2012, 07:14:01 am »

If I switch off my printer for more than 1 day, when powered up, it goes into a serious head cleaning routine,  does anyone know if it is better to leave powered up for this reason, speaking to epson, they say it should be switched off,, (not suprising if it chews plenty of ink),,  however, I am going away for 3 weeks, and wish to avoid head clogs on my new epson r3000, having just disposed of a seriouisly messed up 2880, any advice or experience would be apreciated

Update the driver

This was a problem with the original R3000 driver. Download the latest version and I think your problem will go away. It did for me anyway. FWIW I turn my printer off at the end of the day.

Thanks for the reply Kurt,

I do believe I am already using the latest driver  under win7, I gather that the r3000 will go into sleep mode after a while, but am unsure whether the print head actually parks, and was hoping that this may bypass the switch on/off problem,,,,

as an aside,, do you or anyone know if it is possible to print remotely,, eg via the net... as the best way i have found to prevent clogs if not in daily use, is a regular albeit small print every 3 days max

The driver has absolutely no impact what so ever on the printer's cleaning cycles due to being switched off etc.  A firmware update might change this, but the driver has absolutely no control over such things.

I recommend switching it off when not in use.  The unit will go into sleep mode and park the head anyway - you might as well save some extra power and leave it off.

I'm sorry about referring to the "driver" in my previous post. What I meant to say was the latest "firmware" which is update AS27B4 and available here:  http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=173163&prodoid=63090295&infoType=Downloads&platform=Windows64

This solved the problem for me.
