Leaf Aptus 65 Sensor failing?
« on: January 14, 2012, 02:49:09 pm »

My Aptus 65 has started to exhibit a strange behavior as of late. It happens about 1 in 15-20 exposures, but is a bit disconcerting to me.  The back is about 5 years old and is used 4-5 times per week (mounted/unmounted). In terms of actuations, I don't know how you check that, but I hear that's not really important anyway.

By looking at the attached image, is there a way to tell with some certainty what is going on? Do I need to be thinking about a new back? I guess I better plan to send it to the MAC group to check it out but thought I would ask here first.

Thanks

Dave Anderson

edit:  It hardly happens on the same axis, and usually not across the entire image.

Let your Leaf agent look at the issue and let them decide.

it might be a writing issue, have you tried using it with different memory cards or shooting tethered?

There are several things that I am going to try. I always shoot tethered but recently acquired an iMAC with a FW800 port, requiring me to purchase an adapter. So my next thing is to go back to my Powerbook and see if it still persists. If so, then I will try a different firewire cable. So we'll see what I come up with.

My main concern was that it is a precursor to something catastrophic, like with a hard drive starts to click. But its more of a nuisance at this point.

This looks and sounds like something I experienced some years ago, and it was like you say a lack of power through the firewire cable.
