Lightroom to Photoshop Camera RAW 7???
« on: January 13, 2012, 02:02:12 pm »

When editing a series of images from LR4 to CS5 to make a panorama I got a message saying I should update Camera RAW to version 7.  This does not yet exist does it?  I could not find anything beyond 6.6.

I believe Camera Raw 7 is not available.
You only have Lightroom 4 beta.

See comment below for correct answer. :)

Camera Raw 7 will be a part of Photoshop CS6 and not available until then.

When you get that message in LR4Beta just ignore and let LR render file as a Tiff in Photoshop or whatever your external editor is.

From Adobe evangelist Julieanne Kost:

"If you make changes in the Develop module in the LIghtroom 4 Beta and then choose to edit that image in Photoshop you will want Lightroom 4 Beta to render the PSD/TIFF file, not Photoshop. In order to do this, first choose Preferences > General and click the “Reset all warnings dialogs” button. Then, choose Photo > Edit In > Edit in Photoshop. A warning should appear: “This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7 for full compatibility”. Since LR 4 is in beta, this version of ACR is not available for Photoshop so choose the “Render using Lightroom” option. Now LR4 Beta will render the file and hand it off to Photoshop with all of the changes you have made in LR4 Beta."

I have a related question regarding the output of smart objects to Photoshop CS4 from Lightroom 4 beta:

It appears that the initial exported smart object to CS4 appears to be rendered by Lightroom 4 beta, however opening the smart object within Photoshop CS4 does not round trip the smart object back into Lightroom 4 beta, and instead opens the smart object up into camera raw 5.

Is this the intended functionality?

Is there a work around for this?

When Lightroom 4 retail ships will I still have to contend with this issue?

That's roughly how raw file smart objects have always worked - double clicking them opens Adobe Camera Raw.
