WANTED: 400MM f/2.8 L series EF IS Canon lens

I am interested in buying a 400MM f/2.8 L series EF IS Canon super telephoto lens.  A few wear & tear marks are ok, but the glass must be perfect. I am willing to travel from the San Francisco East Bay Area to Portland Ore., Lake Tahoe, Santa Barbara or anywhere in between to see the lens.

In answer to your posting.  I bought mine in September 2007 from B&H. I used it 3-4 times for horse competitions in the summer when I was not allowed to be in the ring with the competitors. The lens has not been used in the other seasons.

I have : the original box, the case, the lens shade, the leather lens hood, a RRS plate, a Lowenpro AW 600 and naturally the lens. I use the RRS plate for the Wimberly head. There is a small ¼ inch scratch on the barrel near the camera end of the lens and there are very few specks of dust behind the front protective glass element. The photos at 100% do not show up on the photos. I would rate it as Mint 9/10. If you wish, I could at cost send it to Canon Canada for cleaning before shipping and I will pay the cost of shipping it to Canon.

After consideration, I am asking 6600 $ plus the Paypal fees and shipping fees. I am offering it because I am planning to stop covering the horse competitions within a year.

Ah- now I see your message.  Sounds like a great lens for sure.  However, you are about $1600 over my price range and that's if it magically appeared on my doorstep (with out the Paypal fees).  KEH has one in about 8+ condition within my price range so I will probably go for that one.

Just so you know, the lenses listed at KEH are not the current image stabilized version, which is why they are much less expensive.

Actually they do have a current IS II, but it cosmetically is not perfect.  That's my best option to get a 400mm f/2.8 for my budget.

That version II they have listed (or had listed) is the old non IS version II, There were two versions before the IS version came out. Again... no image stabilization models at KEH, it's not the current model.

The current IS II has only been out for a few months, you likely won't find one on the secondary market, and if you do it will be close to $10k.

The link to the Sportshooter one is actually a really good deal if you don't mind some cosmetic wear.
