Spare batteries for Canon s90
« on: January 03, 2012, 01:23:21 pm »

I have been thinking about getting a spare battery or two for my new/used Canon s90. It seems a bit ridiculous to spend a great deal of money on this camera when I could save all of that and get a CSC / m4/3.  So does anyone have any recommendations on 3rd party, Non-OEM batteries? Any good "brands"? Any good places to buy?

For these kind of things, you may chase the right brand, but I'd say the simpler might be to buy cheap knockoffs. Your wattage may vary as they say, but that's the main risk : ending with a spare battery with slightly lower capacity than expected (or sometimes the opposite).

I agree with Niko. I have generally bought several spare batteries for each of the Canon cameras I've had (S60, G12, S95, 10D, 5D, and 5D2), and the cheap knockoffs have been as reliable as the genuine Canon ones. Some have slightly lower capacity than the Canons and others slightly more. The only one that has ever failed for me was one of the Canons for my 10D.

I generally get the cheapest ones that B&H sells, 3 or 4 at a time so I don't worry if one quits. I always carry at least two spares with me, and more than that in cold weather.

Sterlingtek makes fine oem batteries, I've used them in my S95 and dslrs.
