I narrowed my personal 2011 favorites down to four images and noted that two fit Russ's approved type: Landscape with Hand of Man, while the other two did not have the RSL-required item.

Anyway, I think this old machine is my current favorite.

The Witches Hat is stunning; also like the hoover about to suck the whole scene into oblivion! Lucky you caught it whilst you could!

Eric, that's a very optimistic image! Did you see the tin over the exhaust in an effort to keep out the rain, as in "I'll get round to fixin' it later..." Not only HOM but also SpirtOM.

I'm still working on my "2011 Favorites" and the post will go live next Monday.  Until then, I compiled links to several of my favorite photographers "Best of 2011" blog posts.  It's quite inspirational to see all their amazing images.  If interested, you can check it out here: http://blog.bretedge.com/2012/01/02/a-compilation-of-my-favorite-best-of-2011-image-collections/

There's some killer work posted here thus far.  Looking forward to more great photography!

Well some absolutely stunning images so far!  I love the Witches hat.

I don't know if the following is my favorite of the year but it is certainly my most 'recent favorite' having been taken over the last few weeks in the mountains.

Like everyone else I find it hard to pick a favorite but I like this one because several uncontrollable elements came together at the same time.

"I'll get round to fixin' it later..." reminds me of a farmer I once knew. I was visiting him and his wife in their kitchen one day, and noticed they kept a big kettle of water on the wood stove to have a ready supply of hot water whenever needed. I also noticed both hot- and cold-water pipes coming to their kitchen sink.

When I inquired, I learned that they had fetched water in buckets from a nearby stream for quite a number of years. Why? Well, it seems the pump in their well had quit, and when the farmer took it apart, he found that there was just one little part needed, probably worth about 39 cents. He contacted the pump maker and learned that his pump hadn't been manufactured in over forty years, and the part was not available.

He wasn't willing to shell out for a whole new pump when all his needed was a simple little part, so he hauled water by hand for the rest of his life.

I suspect he imagined that when he had time, he'd figure out a way of jury-rigging a replacement part...later!

Not sure if I have one favorite, but this is among my favorites...High Arctic ocean and distant ice sheet around 80 degrees north latitude.  Taken with a Leica M9. Eleanor

Would this be the appropriate moment to suggest that the Leica 'takes' great photographs?
