Canon 28 1.8 or Sigma 30 1.4
« on: December 30, 2011, 06:06:59 pm »

Hi

After a bit of advice. Has anyone got an opinion regarding the Canon 28 1.8 or the Sigma 30 1.4. I shoot mostly video so would like the faster speed of the Sigma but also would like good sharpness for stills. Has anyone got any experience of either of these lenses please before I go out and make a purchase!

Many thanks!

Opinions aplenty, but no experience with these lenses! You’re talking about 0.5 stop between the lenses, so no big deal. Ditto with focal length.

So, what is left?

Price.

Ease of manual focus.

Sharpness at wide apertures.

Bokeh.

A test of the Canon 28.

Another test of the Sigma.

Both appear to have weak edge and corner resolution, even compared to zooms; not great considering the tests are on APS. HTH
