« on: December 25, 2011, 12:31:49 am »

Hi All,

I want to buy a new digital camera . After going through internet I came down to canon s95 and panasonic lx5. Please suggest me in choosing the best camera for taking pics of my friends and family. Which one is better in terms of image quality.

Thanks in advance for all ur suggestions.

I think that you might want to check out the new Canon S100 which replaced the S95. DPreview.com has a nice review of it and the Panasonic Lumix LX5.

I have the LX5 which I purchased as an upgrade to the previous model LX3. It's a great camera and it shoots RAW which is an important criteria for me. I only have two issues with the LX5: 1) It's easy to bump the manual/macro and auto focus slide switch on the side of the lens barrel out of position; and 2) It's too big for a shirt pocket.

The features that I like about the LX5 are many, but here are my top picks: 1) Shoots RAW, 2) Leica lens, 3) lots of manual controls, 4) image quality, 5) reasonably good flash for a P&S camera and 6) Easy to shoot video while taking stills.

If I was looking now to buy a RAW-capable P&S, I would seriously consider the Canon S100 because it does not have the two issues that mentioned above with the LX5.

Cheers.
