Camera battery saving tips

Next month I will be spending several days in a region of Nicaragua that does not have electricity for me to recharge batteries. I will take a couple of charged spares (this is for a Panasonic G3) but still want to conserve power as much as possible. Other than avoiding use of the LCD screen, what approaches should I use to maximize battery life?
