Wonderful colors [and not ugly at all] although my initial reaction was to think that it was a chemical waste dump.
It proves again that Iceland is not only about black and greens.

Francois,

The crater was caused in a 15th C eruption.  In his book "Focus on Iceland," the Icelandic geologist Ari Trausti Guðmundsson writes that the "contradictory meaning of Ugly Pool" can be "explained by geothermal activity and murky water shortly after the eruption, of which there is no indication now."

Rajan,
Thanks for the info. Iceland never ceased to amaze me with magical colors, lights and shapes.
