Epson 4900 and thickness of roll paper
« on: December 16, 2011, 12:02:12 pm »

Grrr!  I was about to order 3 rolls of Epson Hot Press paper to get the 1/3 off deal.  Just to make sure I called Epson and was told that the paper is 16 mils thick and that the printer can't handle it as roll paper.

Is this true?  Has anybody used the 4900 with a roll of Hot Press paper?  And if it can't handle the paper, how come Epson makes a $2500 supposedly Pro printer that can't handle the 17" rolls that Epson produces?

You were given incorrect information. The CASSETTE can only accept media up to .27mm (10.6mil). The rear feed can accept media up to .79mm (31.1mil) and the straight path feed can accept media up to 1.5mm (59mil), so you will have no problem feeding the Hot Press paper rolls, which are 300gsm/19+mils.
