Win 7 64 bit large tif file problem
« on: December 07, 2011, 03:48:36 pm »

I've had this problem ever since I've had Windows 7. Basically, when opening a folder containing large tif
files, Windows Explorer hangs, or at least slows down to a snails pace. I complained ages ago about it but there was little response, especially from MS. However things have now changed: Microsoft accept that there may be a problem:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/browsing-folders-that-contain-large-tiff-files-may/a1ee9ae2-b8b6-4741-8a94-245d06a4ce49#

I tried the workaround mentioned, ie:

Set the Optimize this folder option to Documents
1.      In Windows Explorer right-click the folder that contains the large .tif files
2.      Click the Customize tab
3.      In the Optimize this folder for drop-down select Documents
4.      Click OK

...and it seems to have done the trick. It would be nice to see MS fix this bug properly, large tifs are hardly arcane.
