Estimating pricing for canvas prints
« on: December 07, 2011, 03:33:09 am »

I'm completely new to this stuff, but I've a high resolution image (1600x1200) I'd like to turn into into a canvas print of more than 4 feet wide (somewhere near 6 would be preferable). The print stores I've looked at charge like $400 for such a job (http://www.lightsource-sf.com/pricing/) - is this worth it? Where can I find a printer to use that will print onto some canvas I can buy, and how much would that cost? How much should I pay?
As a side note, I'd like to frame it using that "wrap around" style.

Thanks!

1600x1200 is not a high reslution its less than 2 mp
printing it in  a big canvas will not be a good idea

Is this a joke question?  Are you going to buy a large-format printer and a roll of canvas to print your own?  I should think the printer would be $5000 or so. I suggest you keep looking on the web till you find a place cheap enough - it shouldn't take more than ten minutes.

$400 for 4.5'x6' is a steal already.
unless it's abstract, your image resolution can only be printed up to 12"x16".
Chances are you dont own that image and it's either a wallpaper you ripped off the net, or a sample image your photographer gave you, which you chose not buy the larger print from him at a higher cost.

Have you checked Canvas Press?  They make canvas prints to custom sizes.  I have done something even bigger and they delivered brilliantly.  Check them out at: www.canvaspress.com

Try to take a look on CanvasTouch.com, I've been using this before and glad with the result. I printed 36" x 48"  for only $ 240 and it is worth because aside from a good quality of service I also avail their 40% discount using the Christmas promo codes.
