Lumedyne #244 system--battery
« on: December 03, 2011, 04:26:19 pm »

I have a Lumedyne 244 system & two heads which I purchased in 1988---over the years, I have used it less and less, but on occasion I pull it out of the mothballs.

My question re: the battery-------will a battery for this system "die" over time & need to be replaced, or does it need occasional re-charging over the years to keep it active.  Yes, I couild run tests & determine the answer, but I welcome input from others as I question my procedures.

Thank you--Raymond

In a word - Yes. The battery will need to be replaced/reconditioned in order to be functional to any real level. The batteries in the unit are older ni-cads, and with most rechargeables, have a limited lifespan. Ni-cads were particularly susceptible to charge leakage and memory buildup (meaning charging only to the level they were discharged to or last charged to). I have a Norman 400C of similar vintage and use. Dead as a doornail. The good thing is there are places that will rebuild these, so all is not lost.
