Built a rendering workstation with nice parts
« on: November 30, 2011, 04:55:53 pm »

Now all I have to do is compose something worthwhile----
OK the parts:
asus P8Z68V mb
2500K
16gb corsair 1600c9 RAM
ATI Firepro V5800
Samsung 830 SSD 64gb sataIII 6Gb/s
Hitachi Deskstar 500gb 7200rpm 16mb cache sataII 3Gb/s
Kingwin labeled Superflower Platinum 550 power supply
Lian Li 9F case

After an unusual set of prices forced me to buy the last of what I needed, I assembled the parts in about 4-6 hours.
I'm going to replace the stock cpu cooler with a better one,
I'm going to add several more hard drives when the prices stabilize.
I urge anyone willing to pay for quality parts not to worry about assembly.
Easy peasy with what I have.
Also make sure you buy the right windows version if you're building a brand new rig as I have.
OEM, upgrade, or branded windows 7 professional are all available with very broad limitations on who may use those particular products.

Thank you for your reply!
I think it's beautiful as well.  Wire loom clips left over from my old car restoration project are going to secure the un-managed wires
There weren't really any machines out there that caught my fancy as I've been looking for a year or more.
Finally decided I'd do it myself and am extremely pleased with how simple and fun it is.
Like building a model car or ship.
Easy and the details are important.
I configured it for way less than someone else would have built it for.  Even on CL the closest things are well over 1K
I would've bought the wrong Win7Pro if I hadn't read all the disclaimers that go with every warranty or TOS out there. so that put my build over 1K by a few hundred.
All in all a very satisfying and highly valuable experience.
