iPF 8300 Paper Sizes
« on: November 27, 2011, 06:21:59 am »

I have been using an Epson 9600, with an Onyx Rip (Postershop/Rip Center), for over 10 years.
I have just purchased a Canon iPF 8300, and am in the process of trying to adapt, so I will probably have a few more posts soon...
I use Free Layout for multiple image printing to get around the "No-Rip factor".
At the moment, I am a bit perplexed by the fact that the iPF 8300 is sold as a 44" printer (same as the 9600 and subsequent Epson 9xxx models) but, strangely, the standard Canon roll papers are only available in 42".
The probable explanation for this is to allow for extra space on both sides to enable borderless printing, but I still feel that Canon should sell this printer as a 42" Model. In addition, the iPF 8300 imposes margins that take away about ½", bringing the usable width down to 41½".
This is a problem for me, as I have some standard in-house frame sizes that call for printing on 44" rolls in order to be economical.
In the Canon range I am using the Heavyweight Glossy Photo Paper.
Does anybody know of an equivalent roll paper in 44" that I could use?

The only gloss I have used of Atlex's choices in my iPF5100 is the Ilford Galerie - a very nice, slightly warm, moderately heavy (280gsm) paper. Atlex has been a reliable source in the past, but haven't used them in a year or so.

The iPFD8300 is definitely a 44" printer, and media is a different story. There are many glossy papers on the market that are sold in 44" rolls, so don't let that get in the way. If you really need 44" prints, I would recommend a 60" with 60" rolls so you have unprinted / white space around the printed area for you to handle the print. The larger the print, the easier it is to mess up when handling.

The Canon iPF8300 can print Borderless on rolls that measure 10"/14"/17"/24"/36"/42" and 44". As Andy states, there are many other glossy photo papers available in 44".

Thanks to all for your suggestions.
I will stick to Canon's papers up to 42", and will definitely try some of the other makes for my 44" needs.

I'm pretty thrilled with Moab's Exhibition lustre or Colorado Gloss and it comes in 44" sizes.

Thanks for the tip. I have just checked Moab's site, and I will definitely try their papers.
