Library View Different from Develop and Output
« on: November 12, 2011, 05:58:19 pm »

The Library view for one image does not reflect the Photoshop edit, but the develop view and the exported image do. What is up with that?

Just a thought... I know it's far-fetched, but are you sure you are looking at the same version of the photograph in Library, Develop and Output and not different Virtual copies?

The Library and Print use the preview cache, Develop uses the ACR cache. The two views are different.

Interesting... While I don't doubt what you are saying about the preview and the cache, after many thousands of instances, I haven't ever encountered a difference between the two as the cache is updated when you exit the Develop module.

So, after several years of heavy Lightroom use, why is this the first and only instance of this? Have you actually experienced such a discrepancy?

I've no idea why you should now be seeing major discrepancies. I have seen small differences, but never worried about them.

Have you posted anything about this to the Adobe Lightroom forum?

Not a small discrepancy. One version shows a wall electrical outlet, and the other view shows the Photoshop removal of that outlet.

Have you tried forcing the rendering of new Library previews from Library/Previews/Render Standard Previews or Render 1:1 Previews?

David, I sometimes experience this -- Library module doesn't always update the preview. Can be confusing if you're not alert to it! As an example, I usually make a B&W version of headshots as a separate layer in Photoshop, and just switch it on or off depending on what I want to export as a deliverable. Lightroom frequently fails to update the preview after I've made that change to a file. The larger the file, the more common the issue is.

Echoing others, I have found it best practice to Render Preview for any image that has undergone pixel-edits in an outside app like the NIK programs or PS in order to have the LR up to date.

Ahah. Rendering the preview did the trick. Thanks all.
