Adobe Photoshop Elements XMP file info file

I have just noticed that all my xmp files show their file Kind as "Adobe Photoshop Elements XMP file info file".

Although I have Elements 6 and 10 installed on my iMac I use CS5 for all my work and only use Elements for demos.  I would be interested to know if there is any significance in this file Kind description.
