Five monochrome inks! Wonder if they can all be used at once a la the HP Z series.

I'm told that the Mono uses four of the inks, but you can include the GLOP - sorry Chroma Optimiser with it, which makes 5

Curiously there is a difference between UK and Australian press releases - looks as if the UK one was badly edited, suggesting that cartridge capacity was 5x the 9500. It should be 2.5x, which gives ~34ml cartridge capacity. The euro press info misses this out entirely

I've been collecting assorted info on this printer at
http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/printers/pixma_pro-1.html

Hope to have one for review before too long :-)

So this is essentially a 13" version of iPF5100?

I wonder how its gamut compares with Canon's 8-ink dye printers; I believe the dye versions still have wider gamut and deeper blacks. I have the 13" i9950 and would either buy a complement or replacement in Pro-1, or possibly the 17" version of the Pro-1 (ipf5100?).

I'd think not quite, since the iPF5100 is relatively old - it didn't get the expected iPFx300 refresh, so perhaps next year will see a 17" version of the PRO-1?

I've got a 5100 turning up on Wednesday to look at, so I'll make sure to keep samples for when I get a chance to look at the Pro-1 ;-)

guys, the NDA still is in effect for those who may (or may not. :-)) have information about this printer. This applies to Canon USA specifically.

Nice, looking forward to that.

I've been considering a 17" printer for a while, but have been hesitant due to gamut and lack of deep blacks. The marketing material claims "dense, smooth blacks" for Pro-1, but it remains to be seen what that means in the real world, and how it compares with dye printers. I don't print much B&W and archival is not a requirement, so I've been hesitant to move to a bigger printer with pigment inks.

Now if they'd just come out with a 17" or 24" version of this printer...

Weird - I've had Canon UK people phone me up to chat about it. One wonders when the US will catch up :-) :-)

I agree, Keith. Makes no sense why all of the marketing and sales organizations cannot come up with a unified plan. I am under NDA, so I can't even talk about that. :0)

Well, when the iPFx300 updates were announced in the US, it was a month or so until the UK caught up - made for some fairly elliptical conversations, and didn't do well for UK dealers with stocks of the 6100, when other parts of the world are ordering the 6300.  Ho hum, as ever I put cock-up before conspiracy... :-)

Anyone could confirm this has NO roll support - or at least long sheet printing ability for panos, please?

There is no roll paper support on the PRO-1, however this doesn't prevent you from manually feeding a roll from the back from a dowel. The only gotcha is there will be no support for cutting.

Yes, 35mm margins are in effect for fine art media types.

Sorry, you're saying the margins on fine-art paper are 35 mm minimum?

I'm still uncertain about this...is there a link to specs that discuss the Art 35 restriction? Thanks
