For those landscapers into micro four-thirds, the soon to be released HyperPrime 12mm/1.6 lens from SLR Magic provides an interesting option. Because of the fast aperture and extreme close focus ability (six inches), it also allows some interesting effects not possible with any other m4/3 lens. Finally, with stepless aperture control and silent focus and aperture rings, it's a serious video option too.
I've had a pre-production Noktor-branded unit for a while and have produced a reasonably comprehensive review. While I am very impressed by this solidly built lens and its performance, my review provides plenty of objective testing so you can weigh up the pros and cons easily enough.
I believe the test lens will be near-identical to the production version, with two significant changes. One is that the flare I report at f1.6 has been reduced by 30%. The other is that the slight field curvature I unearthed may not be a feature of production units - I just report on what I saw!
