New here! Hasselblad tilt/shift with extn tubes, question
« on: October 19, 2011, 12:54:53 pm »

Hi, Does anyone have first-hand experience of this combination and therefore know of any pros and/or cons over using the 120mm macro lens?
Thanks

I believe the HTS 1.5 only works on 100mm and wider.

I have the 28 50 and the 100 and it works well. You might want to check with Hasselblad if you are in the USA if it is still available.

Thanks! I already have the HTS with just an 80mm right now but I'm wondering about the different merits or not of buying extn. tubes to go with this combination and maybe a 35mm or whether to buy the 120mm macro!

I do not use the extension tubes. Have you downloaded the HTS manual? If my memory is correct there is some examples using the HTS with extension tubes.

Yes you can use the HTS with extension tubes. I use tubes all the time with my 100 (not owning the 120 macro) and have been very happy with the quality.

Phill,

The HTS will not accommodate the larger diameter of the 120macro lens barrel...

I own the HTS and the 100 as well as the 120macro. No you cannot use the 120mm directly on the HTS however you can use it when you combine the 120 together with an extention ring. This will work, I have used it that way.

Having said that, the 100mm together with extention rings and the HTS will give you a higher image quality. Probably due to the fact that the 120 plus extention rings plus the HTS is a non-recommended configuration the DAC corrections are not at the level of the usual quality.

When doing jewelry I most often prefer the HTS + 100mm over the macro. The ability to use tilt to alter my plane of focus and thus getting more in focus at a short range is very welcome.

Not sure how this is with the Macro II. I am still wondering whether I should sell my macro and get the version II. I do need some additional tax deductions this year :)

Excellent tip Dustbak, never thought about adding an extension ring to accommodate the macro...
