Nikon Thai manufacturing stopped.
« on: October 19, 2011, 12:44:49 pm »

Haven't seen anything about this here, apologies if redundant.

If you plan on purchasing Nikon gear in the near future, it would probably be a good idea to do it sooner rather than later. Production at Nikon's facilities in Thailand have been suspended due to flooding. Other than a few high end products, most of their gear is produced there. Not sure if this will effect the Japanese made equipment or not, will depend on how much of their parts production was moved offshore. This will impact repairs as well. They already have about a 50% backorder rate on parts in the US.

Usual caveat - Avoid grey market. I imagine this will create a feeding frenzy with the online outlets, especially this close to the holidays.
