The Whites are rounded, eroded, old, Eastern-type mountains, and not sharp, pointy, Western-type ones. But I still find the area spectacular. Mount Washington and nearby summits (such as Adams) are great. One of the best spots is on the Western side, the ridge heading south from the summit of Mount Lafayette. In general, you want to get above treeline for the best views, and that often takes some work. Be sure you are well-equipped, have the AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) trail guide, and be prepared for any kind of weather. There is good reason that the area around Mount Washington advertises the worst weather in America. But weather changes rapidly around there, so you aren't likely to get socked in with rain or snow or fog for several days running.
When will you be there?
